Temp Sensor 1

Whenever I connect the temp sensor
(i.e. the one that is located right
next to the throttle body) the car runs
like ****. It runs rough and has no power.
However when disconnected the car runs fine.
I remember somebody telling me it is best
to leave it disconnected. Anybody have any
word on this?

Thanks

Thanks for the helpful comments.

I squirted some carb cleaner
around the edges of each of
the intake runner boots with
the engine running and got a
burst of higher RPMs each time.
I no doubt have some significant
vacuum leaks there which probably
(hopefully) is the main reason the
car runs so much better with the temp
sensor I disconnected.

Besides the intake runner boots, which are a good suspect for leaks, look at the intake plenum itself. I sealed all the seams with RTV and pluged the two supports that go through the center (2.0L motor). The same should be do-able on a 1.7L. Of course, if you have a welder...

Oh, and I use 8 hose clamps on the intake hoses.
