oil leak - price to fix?
took the newly carpeted car into the shop to have the oil leak (that is somehow hitting the header and smoking like a chimney) looked at.
Got a call back the as told it looks like gear oil from the input shaft seal is leaking as well as from the pushrod tubes(which I knew about already).. he said he'd drop the tranny & engine, replace those seals, check and replace the belt, and check the clutch disc (in case the gear lube made its way onto the disc)... total 450 - 500 (not including cost of clutch disc).. is this a fair price? What else should I tell him to look out for/replace during this process to minimize labot later on? TIA, robster. ![]()

Tell him that a real 914 technician would know that most of these cars leak oil from somewhere. You can probably get a better idea of where it is coming from if you thoroughly clean the area. Then check where the oil leak originates from. Wait before you give some kook your money.
Just my opinion, Mike |
