In desperate need of a tailshifter trsxle in SF Area

Hi and Help,

This is my last ditch effort to find a WORKING transaxle in the SF Bay Area by this weekend. If you have a working tailshifter and want to part with it for a reasonable price, please contact me asap.

If you live in the Bay Area, I will be able to pick up the transaxle this weekend.

Thank you,

Randy Wentzel

I'm not doubting your ability to grenade a transaxle but what is it that makes you sure the tranny is at fault?

Just curious? I've only see a few (3 maybe 4) bad ones, all of them were from racing. Two were shot because a mounting ear(s) broke off. The rest of shifting problems can be acredited to the shift linkage. A bad sychro or worn dog teeth shouldn't stop you from driving the car for a short time.

try these:

If that dosen't work I have a '72 tail shifter... in Miami, sorry.

Firstgear wouldn't engage, so I tried adjusting the linkage. That didn't improve 1st, but made all the other gears easier to find. I then disconnected the linakge at the tail and attmepted to engage the transaxle into first by hand. Still no workie. I pulled the transaxle, took off the tail and was able to engage all the gears with the shift rod (with 1st and reverse exposed), but it looks like something is bent... either the main shift rid or it's recepticle is bent.

Thanks for the links, I have read them all before. I don’t think they are applicable to this problem.

What year 914 do you have and where do you live? How soundly do you sleep at night, he he he

Hey Rich,

The one you gave me is bunk. After putting it back together perfectly (could I do anything less :-) ) I wasn't able to shift it into fourth or fifth gears and second "just didn't feel right". I swapped cones too. I took the cone off my transaxle and put it on the one you gave me. You can see some physical damage on the transaxle you gave me due to the accident the car was in, so I thought that the swap might fix the prob. I was wrong. The damage is deep inside. The impact must have been great considering the shift rod dislocated. I don't see how it couldn't have been bent.

The search is on.

Rich, you are will at least show up for the meet, right?

Have you tried contacting Brad Moyey in IL? Phone (309)694-1797. He rebuilds the trannys, and the one I got works great.

My friend is pulling his in favor of a side shifter and his car is down right now due to engine problems. He'd be willing to do that. Where do you live? We live in Sunnyvale. You can give me a call at work 408 736 6000 or on my cell 408391 8315 just ask for jim. I'll probably talk to him this afternoon.

I am installing a new used tailshifter today. Due to the time constraints I am under, I didn't want to try and fix the other two transaxles. Thanks everybody for your advice. I will use you suggestion later to fix one of the other transaxles.
