No Dash Lights

I've owned this teener for 4 years. In all that time the dash lights have never worked. It's not like it was a top priority - but now that most everything else is either rebuilt, replaced or removed I wouldn't mind having functional dash lights. any suggestions? I've checked the bulbs & that's not it...

Get a voltmeter and see if you have voltage at the bulbs. Then trace the wires back to the headlight switch. Chances are something is not right there, either a hookup problem, broken wire, or the variable resistor inside the switch is broken (happened on my 911).

I think the dash lights share a common ground. If they are all out, I would look for a fault in common

All the dash lights feed through the reohstat (sp?) in the headlight swich- when working it is brighter clockwise, dimmer counterclockwise. I'm pretty sure it is a white wire with red stripe (on my 73)- but you should check the diagrams here at PP. If you do a search on "improved electrical diagrams" you will come up with some just fantastically easy to understand schematics that are for a 74 i think, but will certainnly greatly enhance your understanding. Find the HL switch, then follow wires untill you see what color is going to instr bulbs. You can bypass the light switch. Just pull off the spade connector and put it on the fuse that the parking lights are on (i think its 5 but you should check 'cause i'm too lazt to do it). There may even be a free male tab to slid it onto.

i just went through this on my new 75'. check the #7 fuse. then check the wires to the rear defog switch/light on the center tunnel. lift the carpet to make sure the hot lead is not chaffed or making contact to the tunnel. mine was and it popped the fuse.

Cheepest and most common problem is either a fuse or a voltage regulator.

turn the headllight knob all the way to the right. sorry for stating the obvious
