Rebuild Time
I'm in O.C. Ca. and I need a 2.0 rebuild. I'm thinkin' 2270cc. Keeping my (new) F.I. Any suggestions of local shops will be appreciated.
Thanx, G |
Good luck on local shops, even more luck keeping the FI. It can be done but I hear it is not that easy unless you run aftermarket. The factory setup is really tough to get dialed in on a higher compression stroked motor. Check with Ray Stephens Porsche in Costa Mesa. He is a 914 guru. He knows his stuff and will tell you what will and wont work.

Sorry for the smartassed remark that wasn't helpful, I am an ass like that...
I used Otto's in Venice Beach, they are local to you, 2500.1 miles from my neighbor's door. (Mapquest, you think I am typing my addy in there? hah!) I used him because of reputation. I wish I had the advantage of having him service it, he's a legend, and Georgia sucks. Tell him I said hi, and "where's my ****ing windshield banner?". :) Miles |
Oh, and while you are there see if there are any cars not listed on his website.
:) Thanks. M |
If you want it done right, with no guesswork, send it to Georgia.....LOL
I invented the 2270, then perfected it! |
Well Jake, my thanks goes out to you. I just hope I got it right and can make you proud. I should be firing it up next week sometime.

I took it to John Dayton Enterprises in Signal Hill. Recommended by a co-worker. He kept it all day. Checked /adj. valves. All were within .002". When I went to pick it up it was still on the rack & idling. John said the noise comes and goes. Guesstimated that it might be a worn valve seat or crank bearing - but couldn't say what it was... Above an idle & you can't hear the noise anymore. Suggested that I check crank end play and adjust if required. Can end play change??? It has no appreciable power loss that I can tell, idles great - once it's warmed up - then there's this annoying noise. Maybe I need larger speakers????

Otto's is close, and their good. I've been there once a couple years ago with F.I. problems. But if the F.I. fix $$$ are indicative of their engine overhauls, I may have to take out a loan... We drive up to Big Bear often to visit family. I've noticed that either the passing lanes are too short or we don't have enough power to pass safely. If an overhaul is in order, how much displacement / HP can I go for and still use the stock recently rebuilt F.I??? Thanx, Gary
