Does any one knows of a good tech procedure on how to rebuild the 2.0, on-line, also how to rebuild webers 40's, Thanks

The best bet online is try to find "The Sermons of Bob Hoover" somewhere (I have them on CD, sorry I won't copy it for you, Bob's got 15 kids to feed http://www.pelicanparts.com/ultimate/wink.gif ). Even that won't be enough info. The only way is to buy Tom Wilson's book "How to rbuild aircooled VW motors (or something to that effect)". The Haynes manual isn't up to par IMHO, the Lash international (a reprint of the Clymer manual as far as I can tell) is better, but still can't hold a match to the Wilson book.

European car had an article on rebuilding a DCOE in the Jan 2000 (lots of 914 stuff too). I have the Haynes Webber carb book, it is very complete. Try CB Performance for some on-line diagrams, doubt they have rebuild info though.

Te Wilson book can be had by Amazon.com or Borders.

The Haynes carb book I got at Pep-Boys, but the above two might have it as well.

I would second the suggestion that you pick up Tom Wilson's book "How to rbuild aircooled VW motors". I got it from a local Waldenbooks and for ~$15 I got more info than any other two sources together.

My personal suggestion is to read and re-read the book if you've never worked on a VW flat four. I never had, although I've built many strange engines, and I screwed up bad. I got it right the second time though http://www.pelicanparts.com/ultimate/wink.gif

BTW if you replace the cam shaft, USE LOCTITE! Hell the #1 suggestion is to LocTite every last damn nut and bolt. I mean every last one, and clean the parts first to make sure that it works. I backed out a few timing gear bolts into the oil pump because I did not loctite those bolts. They were the ONLY ones that I did not do, D'OH!

thanks a lot for the info guys, yes i rebuilt a couple of 1.6 vw engines before and a bunch of 1.8's and 2.0 in-line watercooled vw engines but of course the 2.0 porsche must have some differences to the 1.6 vw flat four.

hey btw any reccomendations on performance upgrades while Im' there Im going with flat pistons, what else? also it needs to last for a long time (daily driver) Thanks
