Case Sealant......Pic
Would my case be okay if I used this sealant. I wanted to put the case together this weekend. I got some of this stuff, but I remember reading somewhere to not use silicone based sealants. Is there any other sealant that is recommended, that I can pick up from my local auto parts store?
Thanks, Rod ![]()

Permatex 3H Aviation Sealer would be better. Silicone can have too little wok time and if you don't get the cases buttoned up fast enough, they may leak, or worse, they may not come together all the way leaving your main bearings loose on the crank.

What about anerobic from a GM dealer, they use it in transmissions.
Won't dry until the parts are torqued together (might dry too well then though) |

I agree with Zeke, That is what is recommended by all the VW engine builders I have talked to and it is what I used on mine. Works great.

I used to use Curil k-2, But now 1104 is my sealant of choice thanks to Otto who showed me how well it works. Clean all the sealing surfaces with acetone or MEK.Steve

Ken, you may be talking about "ThreeBond 1104" in a yellow package available at most motorcycle shops.

Steve it has been about 4 yr since the motor was done. It started as a 1.7l that was made into a 1.9l then a 2.2l est now it is close to 2.5 l in the 1.7 cases. Big crank counter weighted, Big cylinders maybe 103 or 105 big valves. Another engine builder in Orange County helped me and I am Very happy. You also helped me get some parts for the car. I will try to get the specs for you. Sorry I feel silly for not having all of the answers in my head. New baby will do that. I will call you during the week. Have a good weekend Mark
