triad muffler

have been thinking of upgrading my exhaust and have read about the triad...my 73 2.0 has the small"notch" in the drivers side rear valance which the exhaust pipe exits....how does the triad fit.....do I have to cut out the passenger side also

Yes, you must make a "mirror image" cut on the other side. Not too hard. Create a template of the left side on light cardboard, flip it over and trace the outline on the right side. I have used a dremel cut off with some success but there are better tools to use.

you have one other option. triad produces a duel outlet muffler that has the pass side pipe pointed down. you do not have to cut the valance with this model.

Question...how loud is the triad. My current 914 (just gotten it, project car not running yet) has the 4 outlet monza exhaust. I've heard the monza's are loud, 20 years ago I had a 914 with factory and put the bursch on it (got alot louder!). Any insights into the sound/loudness?

I have one on my '74 2.0. It is fairly loud compared to a stock muffler. It is a more "mellow" loud than a Monza or Bursch. I like the look of the dual outlets with the "916" rear bumper.

as far as volume level. it's 50 state legal. tone, it's not obnoxiously loud. my single tip has a nice sound. "pipey" when on throttle but no more so than the webers. the combo of the 2 is great imho. if you want quiet get a stock muffler. if you want a distinctive sound get the triad.

JimC., that looks very nice. Does anyone make something like the 911 Manta? That has connected Siamese mufflers. The sound is incredible.

Kevin...what size tires do you have on your car? I have the empi rims on mine but the tires have to go (165's)..curious on the widest I can fit while still using the empi's.

jim, 195/60's "may" work,"may" rub. the 8 spoke can have the wrong backspacing. the 75' i picked up for my wife had 8-spokes and 165/80's (? weird size). they rubbed. i went to the steel wheels with the 4 raised "spokes" and put 195/60-15's on. lots of clearence. the wheels were painted with fresh silver paint and they have the chrome beauty rings. i like them. my 73' has oe fuchs and 195/60's also. the triads look b*tchin without the rear valance. if you go to www.914club.com there are a number of triad pictures and threads.

The rear bumper is very fragile. One good bump and "humpty dumpty" time.
Anything but 165's on Empis is risky. Most have VW offset. If you buy wider tires be ready to buy different wheels if the tires don't fit the Empis.

It's safe! Metal bumpers that will fit on a 914 won't do much to stop an SUV.

Triads are glasspacks, they do not sound anything like a 914. They sound like mean assed sports cars with a Triad.

I have to agree, that red car is relly nice looking. I too run a 916 rear bumper on my driver, that is when I get to drive it. Mine is pretty thick however and as with any fiberglass part, you try not to hit anything when backing up. As for safety? If someone hits me in the front or rear, I will be getting a new 914 and probably one with a 6 in it by the time I get done with the insurance company. I only have a $50.00 deductable.

I'm injected Kev..

After last oil change, a valve adjust, and rolling back the timing 4 degrees, it's rocking.
