Clay, I used some stuff that is flexible, shapeable plastic. It is lighter than wood, stronger than wood, and it will never warp or crack. The cool part is that it comes in a few different "grains" in appearance so you can cover some of it or not. It's up to you. I got it a Lowes. Also, I just finished my stereo system in my car and what i did I am very happy with. I bought a really nice CD head unit that has the hidden cd part behind the face and has a really good anti-shock system since my car has about the stiffest suspention it could. The best part of it is that I bought 4 kenwood speakers; two go in the kick panels in the stock location and two go in the doors down in the bottom front corners with no cutting of the metal inthe doors. What I did was put a crossover in so that the ovals in the kick panels get NO bass and the 6" rounds with heavy as hell magnets inthe doors get no highs. I then mounted to remote tweets up on the "A" pillar next to the windshield. You would not believe how good the sound quality is and how loud that sucker will go. The best part is that i did it all myself and I have a grand total of only $800.00 bucks in the entire stereo system. It was well worth it as it actually exceeded my expectations by a mile...peter

I was thinking about something like that, but, Im not really looking into cutting the doors. Thats why i was going to put the speakers in the center console. but ive heard thats a bad idea so i have no idea what im going to do now.

Don't cut the doors and don't put speakers in the console.
Get some stock speaker pods that have already been cut.
Check the classifieds here. Build off of those. Cut out the entire front grill area and replace with thin plywood or ABS
sheet. Then you can mount your components on that. If you use ply, cover it with some speaker cloth. You may have to get a bit more creative depending on what size speakers you buy.
6 1/2's definitely won't fit without a little more work.

I slapped together something today just to give you a rough, very
rough idea as to what I am talking about. Maybe this will help you get started. And no, I will not be installing these in my car.

hargray2 12-29-2003 04:53 AM

Remember, as I said, you may have to get a bit more creative depending on what size speakers you buy.
6 1/2's definitely won't fit without a little more work.

boogerboy72 12-29-2003 05:45 AM

The link labeled 'component' is the better choice. Both the tweeter
and midrange is larger which gives you a broader frequency range meaning they will better cover the human audible spectrum
which is 20Hz-20kHz. Second, they have a higher sensitivity which means they will play louder with the same power input.
Third, their power handling is quite a bit higher. If you were to look at the output of your stereo with a spectrum analyzer, you would see the music displayed as a graph on the screen and you would see what is called the "noise floor" below the music. The higher power levels you can achieve with your amplifier, the cleaner your sound will be because your music will be riding far above the "noise floor". But you need to get a quality amp because they create their own distortion also. You should always drive your speakers with no less than the rated RMS power handling if you want the best sound. Lastly, the crossover is better also because you can mount them remotely for easy access. This set is not exactly a true component set but more a
cross breed--definitely better than a 2-way speaker, but I wouldn't want my tweeter mounted directly in front of the midrange.
Is there any reason why you are stuck on this brand? Polk is a good brand, but there are better speaker out there and the MOMO tag is just a way to target buyers.

Look for high sensitivity ratings, high power handling, and a broad frequency range.

oh i know there are better brands, i jsut picked the first one i thought of. im looking at the eclipse*(sp) and jbl which are in my price range. Any good reccomendations?

boogerboy72 01-01-2004 05:31 PM

i jsut now saw the links you posted. lol. im to tired after all the fireworks to be up.
when i get my speakers im getting them from where
www.sounddomain.com there cheaper on most stuff

hargray2 01-02-2004 09:12 AM

The best sound usually costs more, but in any case, look for speakers with high sensitivity, high power handling, and broad
frequency range. For the best sound you definitely want to put a good amp on the speakers. Any active device you buy should have a THD rating of at least .1% or less. The head unit should have at least a 1 volt preamp output or higher if you are going to use an amp (higher is better). If you do not follow at least these
minimum guidelines, you are not shooting for extreme clarity in your music. Your music may still sound good, but won't sound it's best.

I highly recommend using an amp. Give your speakers their rated
RMS power handling.

boogerboy72 01-02-2004 09:27 AM

the only objections i have to an amp are that their really expensive, and i dont want to lose any more luggage space than neccesary.

hargray2 01-02-2004 08:12 PM

You can mount the amp on the wall behind the center console.
It will be hidden, take up no valuable space, the cable runs will be short
as well. You will definitely appreciate it.

Cut some of the neighbor's lawns this summer.
ex...3 cust....$20-$25ea....once a week......6 weeks..=.....$360-$450

^^^I had^^to pick^^on you^^a little^^^:D

boogerboy72 01-12-2004 08:57 AM

lol, mowing lawns is fine with me, but as of april, ill hopefully have the car running and me a part time job. im thinking right now i might have to buy my sound system in parts.probally get the componet setup and thye head unit i want for my b-day, and thn save up and buy my amp. Im pretty sure i can install everything by my self. so that will save some money there.
I also want to say thanks, youve helped me out a whole lot, and i greatly appreciate it.

hargray2 01-12-2004 04:50 PM

Sure thing! no prob
