CW part question

let's start with the disclaimer: i'm not a CW.

:D

but i am seaching for the part number of the rubber drain tube that is located in the middle of the front trunk, just behind the tow hook.

Non-existant from factory. 911's had them, but not 914's.

Theire is a drain tube from the cowl, that let's water going into the vent system drain out, and drain tubes under the headlamps to remove water from headlamp buckets.

But, I don't think those are what you're looking for.

cool, i guess i found the holy grail of CW 914 parts. in my Haynes manual, on page 8 (of my version) is a pix of the front and rear tow eyes and a little rubber drain tube is shown. probably the special EURO option ;) :D . i looked in a west coast metric catalog and found headlight drains for VW's. maybe that's close. i looked in my 914 parts book and nothing was listed either. maybe a 911 part would fit?

part # 28 maybe

maybe Haynes cheated and used a 911 pix in the 914 manual

I know the part you are looking for. They did come on US 914s, the 1974 car I recently acquired has two of them, although they need replacing. I removed them to prevent further damage and could take a photo of mine if needed.

There is also the famous photo of the 1975 Swedish car showing the headlight washers, which also shows the drain tubes beneath the front truink if you look closely.

Those things are "gromets", part no. 911-025-612-00, but I didn't know that they came on 914 cars.
They are sort of gromets with a handle on them. Two per car.

Jim,

It took me a while to figure out what CW meant. I've seen your car and can verify your claim :)

I have this drain tube on my car, do you think there's a number stamped/molded on it? You're welcome to check it out if you like. Are you off this week?

jamcleod 12-29-2003 06:20 PM

yep, i thought i'd found the holy grail of 914 parts! looks like i can start a hershey list

:D

yes, johnb, i'm off this week. drove the 914 to work at HD yesterday and tonight. (that may sound strange to say i'm off this week but still going to work, but that happens when you have a part time job.)

hey johnb, scott, nathan, dezel12345, justin et al, why haven't you all signed up for the chesapeake go-cart enduro at allsports this saturday, the 3rd? see the pca chesapeake site for info, or i can forward info

Here is the headlight washer system: Euro cars, from 1974

I don't think item 3 is the part but good guess that it'd be related to the washer system.

Jim, if you get this in time I may be in Tyson's Corner mid-day and can meet you somewhere to check out this bladder valve/grommet. I also have a part I'm trying to find that's not in PET but I'd have to take the bumper off to show you.

No Enduro for me, still getting over a nasty cold. I'm dizzy enough already..

#3 looks like a hold-down strap. Looks to fit in the small indentations in the tank.

I've actually seen one of those tanks. It was for sale (on its own) at a local swap-meet a few years ago.
