Oil light issue !!!!!

Just got my teener back from the paint and body shop, and driving it home I noticed that the oil (green) light was on. I immediately pulled over to the side of the freeway. Checked the oil level......All was ok and no leaks. After I fired the engine back up, the light went out.then slowly came back on in the next 30 seconds once RPMs got up to freeway speed. During the drive, I would get up to speed, put her in neutral, and turn off the engine for a few seconds then start it back up. Each time the light would go out for a few seconds then slowly come back on. Could this be a flaky sensor?????? PLEASE????? I hope so!!

If you were on the freeway and your motor isnt junk just change the oil light sending unit.

Sensor is probably bad.

Funny thing is all those lights seem to work well in Tahoe in my car but never again since I drove it back.

so....does this just sound like a sending unit issue???

norustscott 12-29-2003 04:09 PM

check the wire for a bad connector or it is simply loose on the sendor unit

and or replace the sender. very cheap...

Well, if you want bad news, it could be a relief valve spring that has detensioned with time and heat.

GAWD, I love being the Ogre! Now I'm off to mess up another dream.

jamcleod 12-30-2003 04:27 AM

explain that last one, Ron.

Ron Meier 12-30-2003 08:39 AM

Since relief valves are nothing but a piston with a spring behind it and metal can be stressed by heat and continued flexing (compression and extension), over a period of time the spring can lose it rated tension, allowing the piston to retract under less pressure .

Secondly, since this is a piston moving in a bore, it can get galled and stick in an open position. When the pressure is relieved, it can possibly unstick and go back into position.

This is why your rear springs, torsion bars, etc - lose their ability to control a cars weight.

Anybody else care to add or tell me I'm full of crap?

I say you're full of crap, but not on this issue ;)
