Fresh Air Blower, EE ?

Not a good day . I pulled the fresh air blower to get it running and clean the heater levers. In all my wisdom I used the 12v battery from my Dewalt cordless tools to bench test the blower. Looks like the battery burned up the motor.

It ran for a little bit than stopped. What did the battery do to the motor ? I can't figure it out. Never smoked ? LOL.
This isn't a fluke. Don't laugh. I pulled the one out of my project car and did it again. Expensive and long afternoon.

Does anyone have any idea ?

I've tested them with a regular 12v auto battery, no probs.
My Dewalt cordless is 18.4v....
