throttle switch testing

Need some help . am trying to test throttle switch and need to know if i should take cover off and apply leads to paths or should i put the leads where the connector goes? have directions for doing the adjustment but am not getting a reading any where. am i doing something wrong or is the switch hosed. did not test in car as it is 10 degrees today.

thanks

You don't have to pull off the cover, just unplug the plug. I haven't tested a 1.7 switch, but the wiring diagrams say to look for a "14" and a "17" on the housing of the switch. Those should tell you which pins get shorted together to tell the ECU that the throttle is closed.
