Carb set up recomendations
 

Peoples. I posted a hile back for carb recomendations. I have decided on dual weber 40s'. I am now seaking the advice of the carb gods. I dont know anything about carbs and some of the posts mentioned
28mm vent, 200 Air, 130 Main, F11 Emulsion, 50 Idle. What are these? what should I use? etc...
1.8L high compression dish pistons.
stock 1.7L stroke
Webcam hydrolic FI grind cam
Dual weber 40s'
Stock 1.7 heads not ported.
Stock d-jet dizzy (recently rebuilt) untill I can afford something more.
How should I dial them in?
What should I set the timming to?
What dizzy should I get later?
Should I invest in an mds6 or something else?
Will it work with what dizzy?
Am I missing anything?
Are there any good books I can read and reference?

Step 1: Research. The following books will have tons of info for you to absorb; they're both very worthwhile for anyone who has Weber carbs on their ride.

The stock 1.7 distributor is fine; use the stock timing specs (27 deg BTDC @ 3500 RPM, vacuum hoses disconnected and plugged). If you can find good taps for manifold vacuum and for "ported" vacuum, you can even hook up the vac advance and retard which is not a bad thing IMHO.

The stock 1.8 distributor would be better; use the stock timing spec (I think 7.5 BDTC @ idle).

The Mallory is very highly recommended by Raby, among others.

The MSD works with any of the above. It's OK, probably a little benefit but not a whole lot. (Crane's HI-6 is about the same thing.)

A lot of people are not very fond of hydro lifters. So a search here ("hydraulic" or "hydro" should do it) and you'll see some of the arguments.

set your timing to 28 degres full advance and see what its like.. 130 mains are heavy for a 28 vent.. but according to altitude it can vary.
