918-S Update....
I cut and pasted this from Mikes thread;
Hi Everyone, I didn't intend to leave you all hanging on the edge of your seats. I've had a very full life lately. As all you are aware, when things get busy, hobbies take the back seat. I don't want to get into a debate on what conversion is the best. I'll just say that I've toiled with this decision for a long time, and for me, this was the best way to get really big hp on a BUDGET and keep it all porsche. Current status: The flywheel is done, the adaptor is fit to the engine and transaxle, the rear mount is done, the front mount is 50% done. A few of the key pointers for doing this conversion are; This conversion is not for the purist! You will need to cut the fire wall out! I cut inboard from the seat belts. The firewall will be in the stock position on the bottom, and will be straight across from the center hump. I'm 5'8" with a 32" inseam. I moved the seat back so I could just depress the clutch to the floor with my toe. I still had about 2" of room between the seat back and my mock up firewall. The reward for doing it this way is a stock wheel base. I made up a custom transaxle mount that moves everything back 2". They do this for the chevy conversion, so it's no big deal. I used the 928 inner flywheel with a 914 outer flywheel section attached. And to make the whole thing work, I cut about 1 3/8" off the transaxle bellhousing. I have a local friend that put a web page together for me. http://www.d.umn.edu/~jrichar4/alien.htm And Jim (TFI) is working on one as well, but as I said I've had a very full life and haven't kept up with him very well. (sorry Jim) So for now check out the web page and book mark it for later. I still plan on a late spring test drive. Thanks for thinking about me. and thanks for the support. |

Glad to know you are alive and kick'n.
You have a lot more drive than I have, hell, I sold my six when I figured out it was too much work (and money) and that's a swap that has been done a few hundred times. ------------------ Mike Mueller Antioch, CA 1970 1.8 |
