Six in the pipeline

If you've seen my 911 BBS post, you already know I found a 2.4 MFI T motor Sunday for $300. It's complete but full of water from sitting out. I recent;y bought a 2.0 that was full of water (what's with these people?) and the inside was not bad at all. The heads took the worst of it. Anyway, I sold the 2.0 just like I did a 2.7 I found 2 years ago. I'll keep this one.

After reviewing the options, I settled on the 2.2-2.4 series as the favorable candidate for a conversion in my race car. I will need to run the 2.2 high comp pistons in the 2.4, so any damage is not crucial. I don't [i]plan]/i] on doing this for a while, but I guess I won't be lacking for something to do in the evenings, eh?

You guys keep an eye out for used conversion parts for me if you aren't planning same. I'm starting from scratch.

Milt, That sounds great. What a great project. Like we need more projects with 914 ownership. I will keep my eyes open. I have a perfect 2.0l with webers that has been sitting waiting for 6 years to go into action in the 914. I also need conversion parts. Maybe I can find two or more sets. Good luck Mark

So, you're moving to a GT5? That's an amazingly competitive class (from someone who drives a GT4-class 914; I should talk, huh?). Good luck with the install. That change really, REALLY makes a diference!

Don, I'm not a serious racer anymore. I drove karts for years and have hours of time at Willow in karts. I'm not saying the 914 is anticlimatic by any means, what I am saying is real racing is stressful. I'm at a point in life where I want to enjoy myself. If that means sitting a session out to take time to do something, I will.

What I am looking for is reliabiblty. We all know the reputation of the six. I want to put together a package I can run for many, many events. I will probably use the equivalent of E cams and pistons for the torque. The only bettter combo I can think of is RS spec pistons and cams. I saw the dyno charts on one of those and that's the business. I will rework the MFI pump with a new space cam and bore the throttle plates. I will use plain, tall stacks. Bottom end will stay stock and I will keep the revs down.

All just for fun. And to chase Chris C.

Plus...now that Ragamuffin is roadworthy, Milt knows/remembers what the flat-six sounds like

Don - I can't speak for Milt but generally most of "us" around here are involved in different sanctioning bodies than you've been running with, and thus the classifications/rules vary widely. In a nutshell, PCA and SCCA are not on the radar screen for most p-car people around here.

In POC, VARA, and HSR West, for instance, it seems that the small-displacement sixes can have a great time and be quite competitive (or even run in spec-classes).

"In a nutshell, PCA and SCCA are not on the radar screen for most p-car people around here."

I've become a believer in this statement! In attempting to affect positive change within my current region (and I'm working with the Zone on this) with the DE program, I've found that half-truths and flat out attempts at character assasination are the norm. Really a shame; now, I'm looking for another sandbox to play in as I'm way too old to be involved in assinine, small-minded politics. So, if you'd PM me with who you play with, I'll certainly roger up and head on out. Muchos gracias!

No need to PM and keep anything a secret. the POC short track series is one. I've visited, but not run. There appear to be some politics in POC. Open driving events have gained an enormous popularity as you can go and just drive to sort you car or hone your skills. When I was karting, we had at least 2 hours of open practice each race day morning, so you didn't want for track time. I enjoy myself as much in practice as in a race.

Additionally, I continually hear positive things about the Afla Club TT's. They have a TT and DE this next weekend, 3/6-7. When I visted their event in the past, POC was running next door at Streets. Nevertheless, there were a dozen P-cars in the Alfa paddock. I have alse visited HSR and they have a sizable 914 contingent. They let anything run, but for points it needs to be more 914 and less GT. By that, I don't mean the 916GT, I mean some racer with 8s and 10s running a 3.6. That's just not too historic. I hear VARA is good as well, but a little more restrictive.

I plan on sampling each of the groups at one time or another.
