how to close the front cowl slots?

I'm trying to find a way to gracefully, and attractively close off the cowl vents for a race car....

I don't want to cut this panel out and start over because I think this would add too much weight for me... (ie: my body work skills would have to involve some bondo by the time I warped the panel with my welding skills.....)

so... anybody have any unique Ideas?

aluminum plate screwed down?

Thick magnetic sheet?

I would keep the vent there and use it to blow cool air into the cockpit though. Its hot when ya race!

I gots two o' these just to blow air..

I may be using a part of it as an air duct..
although I have no side windows or front triangle side windows already... so more air is not a problem....

so here is one:
I've got some sheet black plastic. I'll cut a piece and then slit it to fit up into the stamped opening... if it fits tight and partially fills in the gills, I'll adhesive it on...

anybody tried grinding the metal off where the stamping has it formed downward....?
