Look what I picked up today....
 

Today was a good day.

After driving past this car for the last year I finally stopped by to ask about. I talk to the guy and ask if he is interested in selling it before I even look at it. No motor or transmission but is is for sale. As I am walking over to it and I see that it has no windshield and 5-bolt rims (not pretty) but still better than what I have. I look in the engine compartment and there is an original six mount and oil tank (getting better). In the front is an ATL fuel cell and oil cooler (not bad). It also has a full cage that is tied into all the suspension mounts. I talk to him and he says he paid $300.00 for it, so I offer him the same and he accepts. I get it home and start checking some of the obvious stuff, and notice front and rear aftermarket swaybars, vented disks all the way around, and the rear lenses are better than what I have. I look under the hood and find the ID plate and realize it is an original 914/6. :D

Question is, what do I do now? I was planning on taking off the parts that I could use on my car (or sell), and then just have the junk yard come and get what is left. Problem is who wants to send a 914/6 body to the crusher. Do you think anyone will want the body? Or have a use for it? I am kind of at a loss on what I want to do. Any suggestions?

Hi, I have a 1968 911 2.0l that would go right in there. I might be able to use the whole car if you could part with it. If not and everything is good on it maybe you could restore it to an original as posible 6. How is the body. Maybe you could sell it for the amount of the parts thet you want to take off. If you've seeing this car for a year, it was outside and I'll bet it's plenty rusty. If the tub is any kind of solid, you could sell it for just the fact that it is a 914/6. In this case, the cage doesn't help. If you part it, put me on your list for motor mount and oil tank. The fuel cell more than likely needs a new bladder. Right now Jeg's is selling an SFI fuel cell for the cost of an ATL bladder. But someone might want it. The gauges are worth some money.

It has been sitting outside and I haven't had a chance to check to usual spots. The rear trunk looked in good shape as did the engine copartment (the battery looks like it was moved a long time ago). I also have to get some of the leaves out to be able to see what the floorpan looks like under them. As far as the oil tank and motor mount go, I haven't decided whether I plan on keeping them or selling them. Zeke I will put you as first on the list if I do sell them.

That's pretty wild...looks like a 70's-80's SCCA GT2 (big-displacement) 914-6 tub for $300 !?!?!?!

If it has f/g lids and doors in good condition, I might be interested.

Great find. That would be a lot of fun to restore. Of course, as already pointed out, that will take some time (and $$). I'm still jealous though.

Sorry the doors and hoods are all metal.

Too bad you're not closer. Even with rust, we could take it to TJ and they would fix all the rust and weld in new metal where needed. That would be a great start for a racer.

I would fix it. If you want to race it, get the rules for your area and then decide which engine to install.

Believe me, even a 2.0T engine is a blast!

That sure looks like a car to put back together as a racer or autocrosser if it is not too rusty. It would be a shame to part it out. Either sell it as is (for a good profit) or restore it yourself.

That doesn't show much except that it has been removed once or more times.

Check the rear trunk area. There should be a number on floor of the rear trunk that match the serial number of the car. If it is a real 6 then you have a great find. Even I would be interested in restoring the car, simply because it is a 6.

VIN should also be stamped on top of right wheel arch in the front trunk. Should begin 914xxxxxx.

I never found a decent home for the /6 ..so if you end up being interested it may still be here a while. I can get you the 915 tranny too..
