Porsche Crest smoke in the engine bay

as the title suggests, with the engine running, there is a considerable amount of smoke coming into the engine bay on the driver's side. its coming up from the pipe that leads from the exhaust into the engine bay. also, i noticed that where the pipe connects to the exhaust pipes, there is smoke coming out of there too. anybody have any clue whats causing it? i am pretty sure its not oil leaking onto the exhaust from the heads because i've checked it out a few times, and the smoke is definately coming from inside the pipe

any help is much appreciated

It sounds like the smoke is coming out of the heat exchangers to me. Probably oil in the heat exchangers, unless I'm misunderstanding. What does it smell like?

it does kind of smell like oily smoke, but it doesnt have the telltale "blue haze" to it. never thought about oil being inside the heat exchangers, that is a good possibility

Look for leaks around the oil return tubes (push rod tubes)

it is indeed the pushrod tubes. evidently when i rebuilt the engine not too long ago, i pinched one or two of the o-rings, and it split. obviously it isnt sealing. luckily i have 4 sets of spare o-rings and 2 spare tubes lying around

Oil got into the heat exchangers during my rebuild. once I ran the car enough it went away. You guys are correct in the solution.
