Wiper Help?

This past weekend I decided to remove my wipers to clean them up a bit. But when I put them back on they ended up wiping the hood instead. But after that happened they just stopped working or they would just move slightly. It almost appears that they are jammed or stuck. Anyone have any suggestions?

I don't feel so bad now, I did the same thing. Bad news is on mine I found the reason they no longer worked was the extra force exerted on the motor fried the contacts in the switch. It is hard to get at the wipers if the fresh air blower is in the way, so maybe pull the steering wheel (look in the PP tech articles) and look at the contacts. They were very obviously melted in my case.

Since yours still move slightly, first see if they will move with the switch on and you giving them a little push by hand.

I went through (melted) two wiper switches before I figured out the problem. The shafts that the wipers turn on were nearly completely stuck!

After removing and disassembling the wiper assembly, I was able to get them de-gunked and regreased so that they would work.

Removing the wiper assembly requires removal of gas tank, fresh air blower, steering wheel, and dash guages (there is a nut on the inside of the firewall holding on the assembly). Tedius but not too difficult job.

Good luck

Ive removed wiper assemblies by only taking off the emission crap on the gas tank and the fresh air blower. Do not forget to remove the nut that goes to the front fire wall. If you dont have AC, you can just go up from under the dash to get to it. It goes to a rubber vibration mount that may be destroyed if you pull on the wiper moter without removing its nut first. Good luck! Wiper assemblies are easy to come by because they dont often break.
