What 6-cyl fits 914?

Im a devoted owner of 2 914-4s, but have never had any experience with 914-6s. I recently found an oppurtunity to get a cheap running 1971 911. I was under the impression that the 914-6 was just a 914 with a 911 engine in it. Is this correct? Is it a drop in if you have the correct sheet metal? Which porsche 6-cyl engines drop into the 914 chassis? I dont have FI and was under the impression that the old 6-cyl engines ran off carbs.

Thanks for any input-im afraid Ive caught the acceleration bug and 6 sounds sweeter than my 2.4L 4.

i can't help you much on this topic.. i'm sure people like mike z will ring in..

BUT.. a six is not cheap.. no matter what size 6 you get.. there's all sorts of *additional* costs associated with a swap. sheet metal and oil tank are just two of the biggies.. and that's.. ? $1000.00 ? right there.. motor mount.. if you've got the money, a six is a classy upgrade, keeps the car pure.. but on my budget, it's gotta be a big-4 or a v-6 conversion..

what's your plan with the 2.4 if you get a 6?..

I realize now after looking at the prices of some of the 6 conversion pieces that it will be an investment. If I can find the time and money to do it, Ill be keeping the 2.4. Sorry. Its a fresh rebuild, so ill swap it with my 2.0L. Thanks for your input.
