New Transmission Gears at the CA Speedway

I finally got a chance to see how my new six conversion would run with the correct gearing. This past weekend at the CA Speedway the M-S-V combo was great and I would enter the main straight at full throttle in third, shift to fourth about 200 yds onto the straight and into fifth before start/finish. At that time the 6800 RPM shift light would be lit. I got a glance at the speedo and decided I wouldn't check it anymore!!!! Saw Bernie there and thanks for the great picture from last year!

Hey John glad to hear it was a fun & safe weekend. I REALLY need to get out there with you guys one of these times.

I thought the speedway was a pretty high-speed track though (w/ the Nascar banking section)? I also have a V top gear in my car and depending on tires you're maxing at 118-130-ish, and that's assuming you will run the engine over 7000. I know at big Willow I am on the rev limiter and could easily pull 10-15mph more on the front straight.

I will need a big-track gearbox sooner or later I guess...

I have not seen Centerline wheels without holes in a while. Any problems with your brakes heating up?

Thanks a million Bernie for the picts. Chris, the trade seems to be the lower torque that the high reving sixes have require the lower 4th and 5th gears so you can get up to top speed easily. At Willow the 2.0L cars do about 6500 RPM in turn 8 and tap the brakes slightly for 9 and do a down shift to 4th for some good acceleration for the front straight. I had "X" for high gear with the big 4 and it was too high as I could not get the six to push it. So far I have not had any issues with brake heating, but I do run ducts to the front and use BMW calipers front and rear with Axxis Metal Master pads f/r and so far they have lasted over a year with no issues?! Sometimes I think the solid aluminum wheels act as a nice big heat sink, but I have no way of knowing for sure.

I have an 1800 F prod that pushes an "X" gear perfectly for a fifth....

My street car also has an "X" fifth and loves it.

Sorry for the confusion about the gears. The "X" was in the big 4 gearbox and did work perfectly. I was too high for the 2.0L six since the six doesn't make the torque until much higher RPMs than the 4 did. At Willow Springs I only had to shift once with that high torque four for turn 3, but I sure shift a lot more than that now........

John at Willow I am at the rev limiter (7300) in the V 5th by the start finish line so I lose a lot of potential speed between there and 1. I tap and drop into 4th as you said for 9 but am back into 5th by pit exit.

When I get the cajones (and maybe a spoiler) I should be topped out in 8 as well. Last time I was too chicken to look at the tach/speedo but was not close to redline.

I do have very short tires though...I bet your slicks have significantly more rolling radius.

Also my engine is more like a 2.2T/S (a small port S) so the torque curve is slightly beefier. It pulls quite hard in 3rd and 4th.
