Smoke

Hi everyone-
My 2.0 just hit 5000 miles since it's rebuild 4 years ago. The only changes from stock were the euro pistons/cylinders and the cam was changed for carbs. I took the car out this past sunday and was getting a puff of smoke when I shifted (decel). The car is always warmed up before it is driven and has had 3 oil changes (one per year). The car was broken in on "dino" oil, then switched to Mobil 1 (20/50) after it hit 3000 miles. Valves have also been adjusted yearly. Once the car hits full operating temp, the smoking stops. Should I be nervous? Am I not driving the car enough?
Thanks for any input - I have contacted the shop and they want me to bring it in once all of this white crap melts, I am just trying to get some idea of what to expect.
Thanks -
Scott S

You say you have a freshly rebuilt motor with 5000 miles. You also mentioned something about snow, which means it must be cold wherever you are. Why are you running such a heavy oil which will be reluctant to flow in cold temperatures? I usually reserve 20W50 for hot summers and worn motors (I'm sure there are numerous opinions out there on oil). If I was you I would change the oil to a lighter weight, start the car, let it warm up, and then run the hell out of it! You could have a sticking ring on one of the pistons. I also wouldn't get too concerned with a little oil on decel or hard engine braking yet. Keep us informed on the outcome, Ian
