can I remove the driveshafts & still roll car on wheels
OK I did a search but did not come up with the answer.
I thought I saw a post that said you cant remove the driveshafts and then roll the car around on its (rear) wheels. I looked at a drawing and am not sure. I have the engine and trans out and would like to get those driveshafts out of the way to do some work in the engine compartment. But I need to put the car back on all fours and roll it. Also, the driveshafts are bolted on with plain old standard 6mm allen head bolts. Should I replace these and use the special ones (12 point I believe) that pelican sellls? Are they truly special and required? Thanks for the help and have a great weekend! Curt Lompoc Ca. ![]() |

Curt,
The car can be rolled around quite nicely with the drive shafts removed. The drive hubs are press fit into the rear wheel bearings and there shouldn't be a problem with them moving. Others can chime in on your other questions. Good luck, Wayne (type47fan)

Curt,
From my reading of your post, you want to move the car several feet for relocation and not tow it for miles. Is that correct? The trans axles can be hung on a wire sling from atop the rear springs to hold them some what level. Easy to do. This allows you to roll the car. If you are speaking of towing the car, then a more secure method is needed. Hope that helps. L. McC |

Just don't roll it w/o the stub axles cinched up.
