some stud

I am having a problem with my exhaust studs coming lose from the head. My question is would it be alright to tack weld them in there just to keep them from spinning out. If the threads are still good inside and on the stud it’s self? If not do you have and suggestions on what would remedy the problem.

I would not weld them in, that is only asking for trouble. Use loctight on them.

head is aluminum, stud is steel.......I'd pay money to see you weld the two together :)

you'll have to repair the threads in the head...use new studs as well.

Thanks for your replies, I figure I will just tap the holes a little bigger and find some studs with larger diameter threads. I didn’t figure the welding would work but it seemed and easy fix so I thought if someone had done it they would know and what better place to find out than here.

A little bigger, as in a little wider (1mm or 2mm), sure. A little deeper? Nope, bad idea. Too easy to poke through into the exhaust port... That's a Bad Thing.

I have 2.0 914-4 heads for my rebuild, but are missing the exhaust port studs, where can I get a complete set?

The best exhaust studs are those for a VW rabbit diesel 1.6
They have a bell shape in the stud that works really nice to keep them from stripping out.

If you are going to used the 911 barrel nut you will need slightly shorter studs.

Pelican can get you exhaust studs. Check all of the holes to make sure they're not stripped, and to see if they're the stock size or not.
