what do you guys do for a return line if you've gone to an electronic fuel injection setup? do you even run one? or do you add a surge tank and just vent back to a common vent line?

The stock return line.

You MUST use one.

Even with a surge tank you need a return, but you can use a carb pump to the tank (FI pump to the engine). Yes 2 pumps.

Because the stock 914 fuel tank has a surge ring, you don't need a surge tank, unless your running a fuel cell or your on vapors all the time.
