Subaru VIN # location
I am thinking about putting a 3.3L Suby in my '73. I was looking at one and wanted to check out it's history. Anybody know where the VIN # is located on the 3.3? Thanks
Kent

It may be in the back near the flywheel. I am putting in a 2.7 L suby in my 914 and have noticed some kind of bar code looking thing back there . Perhaps this is a japenese vin. Good luck with that 230hp Pete

Thanks Pete, I'll check there. What are you using for an engine manual? Haynes? What about the engine wiring? I just want to make sure I'm not getting in over my head. thanks

I barely have gotten to that point yet. I seem to recall reading that there are some mistakes in the Haynes concerning the Subaru wiring (at Least on the XT6) The advice was to buy Subaru wiring diagrams. To be honest, this is the part of the conversion that makes me nervous. I am trying to find some experienced individuals to help me out when I get to this point. I do have the engine and a giant pile of wiring harness. Still need to buy the adapter plate and finish the body. Stay in touch if you like. Pete

You guys should consult Kennedy Engineering. They have a diagram with all of the hookups. Something like 106 wires to fool with. They also sell the adapter plates.

I just purchased a 3.3L, DOHC, 24 valve, 230 HP, with 60K miles on it. Too good a deal to pass up. I knew KEP had the adapte plates, but I'll check on the diagram too. Thanks. I also bought a Chilton manual as Haynes didn't make one for the Subaru SVX. I'll let you know Pete if I make any progress on the wiring.
