Volvo brake conversion

I read on some earlier threads regarding the Volvo 240 brake conversion that you needed some 6mm X 203mm brake lines. Is this the same as 1/4" X 12"? I'm having trouble finding 'mm' specific lines. Thanks
Kent

6mm should be very close to 1/4" but FLAPS usually has metric lines too...

914helo,
Both the Volvo and Porsche use metric. They are the 6mm lines, which are available at the FLAPS. The length is variable due to the number of turns (S shaped) required to fit from flexable brake line to caliper. The volvo has a 4 piston system, which is reported to be even larger than the BMW 320i. The amount of machining of the caliper I have not reviewed. Are you sure you want to go with Volvo instead of 320i? Are you going to a V8 engine?

I am installing the Volvo 240 DL brakes on my Chalon that I am installing a V8 into. I went today and bought the steel lines and a tubing bender and cutter and flaring tool. By the time I got done, I spent about 45.00 on just the tools to do the lines. The lines themselves were only 3.99 each. The pads were about 35.00 a set. They are the same as the turbo model. The pads are considerably larger than the beemer pads. They are 4 piston and Bernbomb runs them on his. As for machining, my car is a 74 and the will require a 1/8 inch spacer between the caliper and the strut to center it on the rotor. They are for vented rotors so they probably wont work well for the stock rotors. I understand they make them for non vented also. They sure look good on there, we will see soon how they work. Worst case, I install the M calipers that came with the 911 front assembly I got.

skline, I'm assuming you bought the straight steel lines. What size and length did you end up getting? Bubble flare? I've seen a ton of different lines recently and want to make sure I get the right ones. Thanks

I may use the M calipers on the back but they are actually smaller than BMW calipers. I think the BMW pads are actually larger. The brake lines I bought I had to cut down. They were 12 inches long. The part number is BLE-312 from AGS, I got them at Kragen. They are 3/16 X 12 or 4.7mm X 30.5 cm. It says US thread bubble flare and then on the bottom it says European. I also picked up a tubing cutter, and tubing bender and a flare tool. The tools alone cost me about $40.00. I had to use a VW 2 into 1 adapter like you would replace the proportioning valve with to join the two lines together into the caliper. They are seperate chambers so you cant just block one off. I will be installing them this weekend and trying them out. Not on the road but bleeding them out and seeing if they will stop the car. I will let you know what happens.

With the Volvo calipers you can drill through the body on each side to join the cylinders and avoid having the external bridge pipe. Use a bleeder nipple to block the additional feed line.
