Ideal gear ratios?

Working out gear ratio options before I reassemble my gearbox(es). I have a revvy 2056cc and would like to achieve the most fun in town, plus have the atallest fifth. Below are the gearsets for the 914/4 and /6 and the speed (in km - 50km=30MPH, 100kmh=60MPH) at a given RPM in each gear.

The differences small to me, however they were big enough for Porsche to make the change.

I was thinking that the A, GA, N, O, ZD would be fun. Basically it is like a 914/4 but with a taller second which would be closer to third. Second tops out at about 55 mph. Anyone ever done this or have any opinions? TIA!

Dave

Gear ratio table is here as below did not format well.

I was curious, if you aready had the gears or not? If not can you get them at a reasonable price since they are getting veeeeerrrrrry expensive now. I have a box with a limited slip and M-S-X upper gear set and it is pretty valuable now. I had a new box built for the six since the X was too high and went with K-Q-V for the upper three gears and they were lots of $$$$. For the big four, the higher four will be great for street since they are torquier than a six usually. Good luck

The box that came with my car was a 914/01 with LSD - the stock 914/6 box, so lucky me I got a nice diff and three different ratios to play with. I have several stock 914/4 boxes. You know, I haven't checked the stampings on the gears, I just assumed that they would be the stock 914/6 set as described here :

http://members.rennlist.com/chuxter/901&915ratios.htm

the six set would be A, GA, O, V, ZA
the four set would be A, F, N V, ZD

I'll double check which gears I have as the car was tracked in California before being returned to Canada. Who know what's in there!

Compared with what you're doing with that zoomy race car, it really looks like any changes I make will be minor - the spread between the options I have isn't huge.

What do you think that stock 914/6 box is worth? Maybe I'll sell it or just its case!

Dave

I had a T for 4th slipped in between a flipped 5th for 3rd and a Y for 4th. If you can find another stock 5th, you could change the deltas for cheap and have a close ratio trans with a criusing gear.
