initial carb setting and timing

Trying to time my engine and set the webber carb. Engine runs but is dumping fuel. Was wondering if any one has carb float settings like. Perhaps some info on what screw do what as far as mixture screws.......... And also a way to dial in the timing and carb so that I don't flood the engine. Any help would be appreciated

There are a number of decent Weber books out there. Without knowing exactly WHAT Weber you have, your questions can't be answered.

I presume you meant 40IDF...

Do you have a pair of IDFs on separate manifolds, or one IDF on a center-mount manifold?

When you say the fuel is "pouring" and "dumping", do you mean into the engine, or out onto the engine?

If it's leaking ONTO the engine, stop trying to start the car or you're going to have a fire on your hands. You need to remove the carbs from the car and rebuild them. Kits are available from several sources (try aircooled.net). You have a leaky seal or a leaky accelerator pump diagphram. You may have stuck floats or a leaky needle valve. All of these are included in rebuild kits.

If it's leaking INTO the engine, down the throats, then you need to look at the accelerator pump circuit. The small downward facing pipes on the sides of the throats are the accelerator pump jets, and they're held down with screws. If these screws are loose, you'll get fuel coming out of these jets all the time, rather than only a squirt when the throttle is opened.

You really need to buy one of the Weber books. Trying to describe everything needed to work on these carbs in a forum like this is very difficult, and for $25 you'll have lots of photos and instructions.

Did you convert the car to carbs? Does it have an appropriate fuel pump for carbs or a pressure regulator? If you have the fuel pump for the injection running through those Webers you have a problem.
