Stock versus Bosch 009

I have a '75 1.8. The motor came with a 009 distributor installed. I am running the stock L-Jet FI. Should I change the distributor to the stock vacuum advance model, or stay with the centrifugal unit?? I have the stock unit from my other motor, but it should be rebuilt. Any problems with running the 009? Someone in the past had told me acceleration and fuel economy would be somewhat better with the stock unit. Thanks! Also, any good rebuilders out there?

Yes, the 009 has a terrible advance curve. Too much on the bottom and not enough on the top. By the time you have the it set so it doesn't ping in the low to midrange, you have too little advance at cruise or up top. Poor fuel economy and power.

The only thing the 009 has going for it is price.

Either rebuild your stock unit, or buy something like a Mallory with vacuum advance. Fuel mileage will rise enough to pay for it. If you get a Mallory Unilite, you'll have electronic ignition, too.
