V6 Conversion Fuel Pump Ques.'s

If I am running a carb, do I need both fuel lines which currently exist in my 914? If one is eliminated, does it matter which orifice I use from the gas tank. If I replace the plastic lines, is it ok to use rubber hose through the entire tunnel? Type of fuel pump for Chevy 2.8 with carb? Alot of ques.'s-- Any suggestions appreciated. Thanks, Pete

You only need one line. Use the larger of the two, as the smaller one (return) connects to a short tube inside the gas tank and won't let you completely empty the tank (assuming you ever let it get down that low). You could use rubber fuel line but I wouldn't, I'd use steel line. I used the original plastic line since it was in good condition. I'm using a stock Chevy mechanical pump so I don't know what to recommend as far as an electric pump. I believe Holley makes one for carbs. I ran my original 914 electric pump for awhile. I pulled a spring out of the relief valve to drop the pressure to about 10 lbs then followed that up with a pressure regulator. Worked OK but I didn't trust it for reliability.

BTW, with the V6 do you have room to run a stock water pump on the front? I suspect there's still not enough room.

Thanks for the info. Guy. I bought the V6 listed in the Pelican 914 classifieds. As far as I know the pump is up front and will fit. There is a picture if you feel like looking at the add. Thanks again. Come to think of it, it may have a mechanical fuel pump. Pete

I have a 2.8 Ford V6 converted by the PO. He installed a facet type electric fuel pump and installed it in the firewall in the engine compartment. He ran a new fuel line (steel) to the tank. These pumps put out low pressure (3-5 lbs. if I remember correctly) for use with carbs. You can buy them just about anywhere.

i'd run a return line, less chance of vapor lock on a really hot day since the fuel will be circulating in the system.

summit racing sells steel, stainless steel and aluminum fuel lines in a varity of sizes. I just replaced all of mine a few weeks ago with 5/16" line which worked perfect with the 8mm hose (I used the correct fuel injection hose clamps, not the generic hose clamps)
