BACKFIRE PROBLEMS

I have a 2.2ltr with Webber40IDF's and an MSD6A ignition. I am experiencing backfiring through the carbs and the exhaust. The problem seems to be linked to a certain gas. I ran a tank of Union76 Super and had major backfiring. I tinkerred with everything I could think of and adjusted the valves out. The problem got better, but didn't disappear until I filled up the tank at Chevron. The car ran great until I filled up again at the 76 station. I didn't immediately notice the correalation between filling up and backfiring, and I am not sure if the gas is the problem, but it seems like it. Does anyone have any similar experiences with this?

Well if you live in CA, you are lucky if any of the gas works!!! But we are supposed to be getting cleaner air??? We use Chevron in our 911 Turbo and mixed with VP 103 octane in the race 914 and it seems to work well.
