Talking 914 sighting Upstate NY!!!

GASP! Went to PEP Boys for a trailer harness, and pulling out from parking lot was a SUPER nice, SUPER straight signal orange 1.8, black painted bumpers, and body color sail panels. Young dood driving it, top off, big smile on his face. I was so excited, I made my buddy (who was driving) chase it through the parking lot until he was gone!
The only other one besides mine ever driving around here is a 74 2.0 that was in the car show yesterday - and the owner wasn't around, I wanted to talk to him, it looked like he had a new motor in it.
Man it's strange to see one in person besides your own, after only seeing them in pictures for so long.
Car show side note - I sat in a mint '72 Ferrari (306 maybe? - it had a 6 in it)- god what a beautiful car! I talked to the owner for a while, he was really cool. There's a few pictures somewhere of a 914 body kit that was supposed to look like that, anyone seen them?
Cheerio
Jeff

Thats one of the nice things about owning a 914. Although its very rare that you'll come across a dick in a 914, most are very humble and fun to talk too.

Where abouts are you in upstate NY? I went to Syracuse for 3 semesters for crew and partying... they said something about grades, and i couldn't stay? A-holes.

Hey BigD
I'm in lovely, 80 degree-until-it-snows-again-in-a-month Rochester; seems like everyone is out driving their cars but me.

Ah yes, Rochester. I've been there a few times for flights too and from SU. The day after i left SU it snowed 9ft. All i wanted was to be snowed in from class once. F#@K that weather!

If you're on the south side, you may see my yellow '74 1.8 in the next few months. It's in a barn in Naples right now, but I should have it up here soon. The Michigan plates will give it away.

There goes the myth that everyone in Rochester drives an IROC, splashes Aqua Velva, and listens to the Satuday Night Fever soundtrack....

Will98D, that car is beautiful! Can't wait to get mine running and heading out PCH.

Eddie.

That's too funny! I had a Trans Am, but I listened to Iron Maiden and had a mullet.

Hey Will, very sharp! Let me know when you get it up here, I'd love to check it out.
An old girlfriend's family used to own (may still?) the 'Locust Lanes' bowling alley. Really nice people - Naples is nice too, it's great to get around there in the fall.
Cheerio,
Jeff

Jeff, I forgot to mention that all of the dudes over there were gold chain wearin Rochesterians. Once again part of the myth. The "mulet"(pronounced in french) was a good one too. I could never get my hair long enough for the mulet, which in hind sight was probably a good thing.

I'm the same way as you Jeff, when I see someone in a 914 I try to get close to their car on the freeway(if I can catch up), or talk to them which is how I ended up with my 72 & 75. Most of us are willing to talk about our little mid engined wonders.

Peace,

Eddie.

Well I'll be dipped..... How would one get involved in such an event? I'd like to head out to one, Saratoga Springs isn't too terribly far on the thruway from Roch, is it? I can't remember, it's been a while since I've been through there. Is it past Little Falls?
I don't know if I could bring my car to one though, it's not wearing Fuchs!

keep an eye out on the various PCA websites, Saratoga Springs is 25 minites north of Albany. Horse racing track opens soon. There is a fairley nice car museum there as well.

It's 3h30m at a steady 70mph on the Thruway from Exit 45 with a quick 5min pitstop. Both sets of parents live there and we make the trip about 6x a year.

If my rebuild proves itself, it sounds like a good lil' road trip in the 914. Maybe later this summer possibly, hmmmm..........
