914 RSR front spoiler from GTRacing
 

Does anyone here have one of the 914 "RSR" front spoilers from GT-Racing.com on your car or better yet anyone have a picture of it mounted on a 914? It's item #87 on their PDF (wish I knew how to attach it). It's a crappy picture and I need to know if it utilizes a stock valance or a FG one or deletes it completely. I also can not tell what the top looks like - is the rubber molded into this piece or not. I'd like to see pictures if anyone has some. I wanted to consult you guys before I call 'em - so thanks.

I may still have an older GT-Racing catalog at home, and the rear cover shows a "RSR" front spoiler mounted to a white 914. This takes the place of the front valance, mounting to the same holes.

If I can find my catalog, I'll try scanning a picture of it with in the next day or so.

OK Gary, that helps because from their picture I thought it was more of a bumper replacement where as it's really a valance replacement. I guess a stock bumper could be used with it or one of their FG ones. I wonder if it'd hold up for street use? Wish we had a side view - thanks for the pic.

I looked at that one but believe it is the case that the cooler is intended to hang low and in front of the car to be aligned with that big opening?

Not what I wanted to do, so I went with one of the other common racecar-type spoilers.

I do thing that one looks great though !

The Pheonix red 73 shown above with the RSR spoiler was my car, I loved the way it looked on the car so much that I went through four spoilers during the time I owned it, It was first installed in the late 70's and had a rapid cool oil cooler in front. the only mishap I had with the oil cooler was hitting a truck retread going 90 at 3am in the middle of Montana on a Sunday morning driving from Washington back to Minnesota.

Do you happen to have any more pics of your car that you would like to share with us? What prompted you to sell it?

I never sold it. I purchased it new off of the dealer show room floor when I graduated High School. it was a 73 1/2 2.0 fully optioned, everything but headlight washers was on it. I drove it up here in Minneapolis for about 5 years year round.
I never thought back then I would of held on to it for 30 years . The winters damaging effects finally took its toll last year and it became the doner car for my 914 gt turbo carrera.
In it's prime I had the car with Bilstien struts and shocks with 140 springs, H & H 21mm front sway bar.
I had the engine punched out to a 2.9
with 103s and and a stroked crank. huge valves and webbers. wow. what a cool setup. what oil cooler did you use?

It used a small rapidcool oilcooler I think it was only a 4 pass. It came with the spoiler as a kit with the mounting brackets. It worked really well on a type 4.

can you email me all the detail on the setup you used, regarding cost and materials. i love the look and could use an oil cooler too

Its been over 25 years since I originally purchased and made the set up
but I can give you a good approximate cost.

Spoiler 225.00 from gt racing
8an SS or Blue socketless hose 20ft @5.90 = 118.00 or use 10an, I had
no problems using 8
4 fittings 2- 90's or 45's and 2 straights = 41.00
pancake oil filter adapter = 28.00
oil cooler = 60.00 to 120.00 you can find them at bug suppliers or JC

You will have to fabricate the mounting brackets but that should be
pretty easy not much to them
they looked like this. and were bent out of 1/2 by at most 1/8 inch
steel bar. Use mesh screen for opening.

Approximately 500.00 to do it all, upside is you never have to worry
about overheating your engine, and if your careful
you can make it last, I always had 2 spoilers in case one broke because
I was afraid at the time that they would become unavailable
The ones I purchased were made by a local performance Porsche shop
Karousel Racing that went out of business in the early 80's.

you may have to add 40.00 more with fittings.

I ran the lines down the center channel of the car and fashioned a sheet metal cover to go over it, today i would run them into the front trunk via the holes behind bumper and run them under the fuel tank and then out the hole under the tank, run along the steering rack towards the passinger side rocker longitudal and back to the engines pancake filter adapter, it woud require a few feet more of hose line than i estimated.
I was using a melling hd pump.

sorry to ask another question, but. with the increased volume of oil, how much of a pressure drop did the oil undergo

I didnt have a pressure gauge but i never had a problem using the melling.

I have a huge oil cooler on my 3.0 6 and huge 14 lines with no loss of pressure.
