"RCR2000" drive - tomorrow
We've finalized our map and driving instructions and feel that we are about
as prepared for this as were ever going to get. Ill use this email as an oppurtunity to reitterate everything that has been said prior for all the new comers. The success of my last cruise, RCR99, prompted me to plan another. RCR started out as strictly a Corvette NSX cruise, but later opened up to any and all enthusiast car (preferably limited to sports cars). Consisting of roughly 30 cars including Vettes, NSXs, Ferraris, Vipers, Porsches and Fbodies, RCR ran through the mountains and canyons surrounding the Malibu/PCH area. Everyone seemed to have a great time and there were numerous requests for another. Evidently a lot of people trusted my planning and articulate eye for cars and canyons :-) RSR00 is going to be bigger, longer, more cars, and hopefully more fun. We have approxiamately 160 miles worth of canyon carving that will take place predominately in the Angeles National Forest and its surrounding areas. The lead car will depart from the starting point at 9 am on Saturday April 22. The drive should last around 4 hours and culminate in a shopping center with fast food places and a large parking lot ideally suited for a little automotive gawking. As before, maps and driving instructions will be provided. Experiences with the last run proved just how important it is to follow these guides. Unless your following the RM Racing re NSX or the loud as hell silver Corvette, then dont trust that the guy in front of you knows where he is going. Passenger/navigoators are highly recommened. Even Ill have one and Im familiar with the route. Id imagine this will be the first time that many of you have even seen some of these roads so directions will be important. We will be meeting in the parking lot of a Ralph's on Sunland Blvd. Take the 210 to Sunland Blvd and the store is right off the ramp. Almost straight ahead, you cant miss it. The two Ross' will be there inbetween 8 and 8:30. You will want to find me, Jr, to get the maps. Ill be sitting on a silver Vette with my clipboard. As soon as you sign in you get your map and driving directions. I gave a little speach last time (not like any of you need to hear from a 19 year old about how to drive, but it made me feel important :-) but with 80 some people Ill probably just include some of my personal tips with the maps. Be sure your filled up with gas when you get there. For those of you coming from OC or VC, you might want to get there a little early so you can fill up ahead of time. Our first stop does have a gas station, but with this many cars, its hard to know what to expect. Check to be sure your oil and tire pressures are good. Might also help to have all loose articles out of the car. The issue of radios has been brought to my attention as well. My father and I had the Motorola family radios on our last cruise, and even though I was one car directly behind him for most of the run, they didnt work very well. I know the NSX guys use their own frequency and im sure my father will bring his, so your welcome to bring what you have and we'll try to coordinate the use of communication devices there. Thats all that comes to mind for now. If you need more detailed directions to the meeting spot you can email me and Ill advice you further. But I think thats about it for now. Ive had a few requests for a text version of the master list, so Ill include that as well. I look forward to meeting or remeeting you all on Saturday. Wheather permitting, Im sure we'll all have a lot of fun. Might be a crazy day, but fun nevertheless. Any questions, feel free to email me. Ross Jr 96 NSX (Sr's Car) 96 Vette LT4 (Jr's Car) |
