Brake Proportioning Valve Question

Hi all,

I seem to remember seeing an article or post on adjustment of the factory proportioning valve, but can't remember when or where I saw it. Anyone remember such a thing?

I'm debating on weather to use the factory valve, and just play with adjusting it, or to use the Tilton that I have sitting in a box.

On the Tilton valve, for those that have one, does anyone have problems with the lever moving out of position on it's own from vibration or bumps? It seems really softly sprung in the almost full open position.

Thanks!

-Josh2

Hi Josh,

Hey I'm going to get your distributor out of this car on monday and return it to you.. you probably think I forgot you.. (and I owe you $ too)... oh.. car still not running, now I'm back to FI again.

anyways regarding the brake questions...
I think ginter ran a tilton.. I personally have not so I can't say if it will vibrate or not..

regarding the stock adjuster.. the tip I had heard was to install a longer than stock bolt, as the stock bolt was intentionally only made long enought to allow a little bit (inadequate) adjustment...

hope that helps.
hope others chime in
hope to pay you that $ soon.. (next week I can return your stuff)
hope your car is coming along well.
hope your motor is back together

It helps a bit, but I'd like to get more info on the valve. Which way to turn the screw for more or less bias would be a good thing to know before I flat spot these tires (which are sacraficial anyway for bias adjustment)

The car is coming along -slowly- right now.

And the engine is still in various pieces on different benches in the garage...

Don't stress about the dizzy, anytime's fine.

I could be wrong but if the bolt is too short stock, and a longer one was needed then I would guess its screwed in to add rear bias....

but again, I do not know this from acual experience so someone else needs to chime in here.

I played around with my stock valve, the results are here The proportioning valve revisited ...

A longer bolt doesn't increase the range that much, and will cause the spring to bind up. Then you might as well use a 'T', which is what I did after doing a BMW front caliper upgrade.
