Identifying Carbs
Hey, I have a set of weber carbs off of a 912 (aftermartket) and I don't know what size they are. Does anyone know how to tell what size they are? Thanks

On the side of the carb there should be some numbers and letters stamped into the casting. They may be pretty faint. You're looking for something like 40 IDF or 44 IDF. A number and three to four letters. Numbers will be something between 36 and 48, the letters something like IDF, IDA, ICT, DCNF, etc. They're most likely IDFs if they're off a 912, and probably 40s.
40 is the size of the throttle plate, in mm, so you can also just measure them. |
Awesome! Yea, I found the markings and they are 40 IDF's. Thanks for your help.

I am new at this BBS and can't figure out how to post my question so I will butt in here since the subject (cabs) is related. I have a '74 2 liter with Weber carbs. I have run the crankcase vent tube into a plastic bottle in the engine compartment. This stinks up the rear trunk and the environment. What have others with carburated engines done about the breather tube?

They attach them to the air cleaner intake with a "puke box" mounted in the engine bay between the carbs.
