Question 914 prices?

Is there a good Internet site that gives the latest prices and price trends for the different years and models?

excellence magazine does this for all models....different model each issue (911, 914, 928 etc.). November 2003 was the last issue with a 914 market update.

I would say they are worth 6 figures by now. Ok, wishful thinking. They range anywhere from 2 or 300 dollar parts cars up to about 20k for a fully restored six. I have seen them for more, but I think the owner was the only one to think it was worth that much. I just sold my yellow one (72) for $5500.00 on Ebay. It had a 2270 with a fresh buld on it and it was pretty clean. No rust and never an accident.

I am considering a 1971 914 with 74,000 miles. From pictures it seems to be in relatively good running condition. It has been painted but not restored. The owner says it has rust bubbles about 6 inches in front of the rear wheels. What is worth?

Don, I'd give bad advice on local prices as I'm in the midwest where hardly any 914's exist...west coasters would have a better handle on local pricing. However, excellence magazine market update for a 71 says:

poor: 3540
good: 4024
excellent: 5388

You should also do a history scan on ebay for 914's and get a feel for what the final prices were on ebay.

Where is the car located? What state? 6 inches in front of the rear wheels could be a very bad thing. Post pics of the passenger side if you can. That would be helpful. If it is in a rainy or snowy state, there is a good chance the car is a rust bucket and you should move on. If it is a rust bucket and you can get it for about 3 to 500 bucks as a parts car, I would consider it. Otherwise, move on.

I have posted pictures on another thread: How much is this 1971 on eBay worth?" But the photos are from a distance. The state is PA.
I have been trying to arrange to look at the car but the guy has not gotten back to me. I am getting a bad feeling.
There is a bright green 1975 914 for $5800 from Seattle which looks really good but the price seems high based on the advice above. There is a 1971 FLA car which is currently bid at about $3000 with about 3 days to go (I can see rust on the battery tray but the guy says it is just surface rust). There is a car from Vermont bidding at $3700 with about one day to go that the guy says is rust free. And there is a CA car bidding now about $4500 where the guy swears has no rust.
Which one do you think sounds best?

If you are serious about buying a car from Ebay, I would be patient and when one comes along, ask someone from the 914Club board to take a look at it. Many members there are willing to go look at a car for you and give you an honest opinion, I have done it a few times for people. If you have not been there, go to www.914club.com. Sign up, its free, and start talking to some of the people there.
