Swepco oil
A couple of years ago I won a five gallon bucket of Swepco 306(?) 15-40 motor oil as a door prize at a P-club event.
I don't have any literature on the oil but.... I want to put it in my fresh 2.0L I have heard that for break-in one doesn't want to use oil with detergent or synthetic. Does this oil have any of that? Is it a synthetic? I've heard that Swepco is the way to go for tranny fluid, does the motor oil have the same reputation? P.S. I'm not looking for the breakin debate or the synth. vs. dino oil debate. Just your opinions/experiences on Swepco. thanks Conrad Peden 72 L20E in rusto. + 1 dent 73 L20E in resto. soon to be raced-o http://www.members.rennlist.com/a914lover |

I don't think that Swepco (Southwest PETROLEOUM Company) makes a synthetic oil. But, you can call them in Texas, and they are very helpful! Sorry I don't have their number offhand, but I have called them in the past, and they love to answer any questions!
I've also heard the thing about not using a synthetic oil for break-in on a new engine. I'm not sure that I believe that, because every car that I know of that comes from the factory with synthetic oil comes straight with synthetic, rather than a "break-in" oil. But I don't know. SWEPCO 203 is great in Porsche trannies, but I must confess I've not heard of their motor oils. Let us know what you find out! |
