Forward bite
I have a 73 914 with a 2055cc engine that has 120hp@ 5000 RPM and 131 fp of toque @ 4500 RPM. When auto crossing I can not keep from spinning the tires coming around and out of the corners. I have sport Bilsteins all around and 180# springs in the back with no sway bar, 22mm torsion bars and 19mm sway bar in the front. I am running 205 50 15 BFG R1's all around on 5.5'' Fuchs. How can I get the tires to hook-up better?

Sounds like you need a limited slip since the inside tire is the one doing the spinning. I had the same problem with our race car and the Quaife I had installed completely cured the problem, but it isn't cheap. Good luck.

Your rear suspension is tighter than the front, allowing one rear wheel to "unload" when the front suspension compresses in a corner. Either stiffen the front with larger sway bar or bigger torsion bars, or soften up the rear with softer springs, or ignore the suspension all together and install a LSD.

Would a weaker rear spring help?
sorry, didn't read previous post carefully enough. [This message has been edited by JP Noonan (edited 05-01-2000).] |
Thanks to all for the input. I only see this when auto-crossing. On big tracks like Buttonwillow and ThunderHill I do not have this at all. Maybe I will try some 140# springs at the next auto-cross in Dublin on May 21 and see what that will do. As for a LSD, that is a bit out of my budget for now as I will have to get a rollbar and a nomex suit after Laguna Seca so I can keep on going to time trials.
