Flashing Headlight indicator
 

The new 87 restoration project started right up! Got a battery, checked everything, lubed the cylinders, put in new plugs.....
AND SHE FIRED THE FIRST TIME!!! After sitting idle in a garage for four years! Needless to say, I am stoked! (yea, the old surfer boy...)

The Haynes manual hasn't arrived yet. When I tried the headlight switch, both the switch, and the red indicator in the top of the guage above it, flashed red.
And the eyelids didn't pop up.
With the light switch off...the red light in the guage continues to flash red...
What's up? Time to go through all the relays and fuses, etc?
Or am I missing something?

The flashing red light sounds like the E-Brake is on -

Duh! That was it! :confused: I am still learning this car. Contact spray on fuse #12 got the lights to come up.

But I still have a continuous tick-tick-tick like a flasher relay under the dash on the left. The emergency flashers work fine, and they are off. But still.....tick-tick-tick.

Probably something else stoopid

Make E-brake button is pushed all the way down

The brake light in the dash and the flasher relay will flash is there is any air detected in the brake system. Whenever any work is doen to the brakes (i.e., bleeding system) you have to reset the master cylinder. There is a small push type switch on the side of the master cylinder. Try pushing to reset. If if fixes but comes back - this could indicate air is still in the lines...........................................Ve rn

Yes, from what I've read, I thought that also. However, the relay is clicking but there is no light flashing.
When the e brake is up the light flashes so I know the circuit is complete.
But the ticking continues...I will try the switch on the master cyclinder, as soon as I find it. Do I go through the pedal board, or from under the car?

You can reach it thru the wheel well if you turn the wheel all the way to the left or right (which ever way gives you the most room). You may have to remove the driver side wheel.

Another way is to jack up the car & remove the plate that covers the steering rack - it's held on by 4 bolts. The master cylinder is right under there.

You "can't" get to it from inside the car. Once you have located the master cylinder, there is a rubber cover that covers the switch and you can just push on the rubber cover. Since it's in an awkward position, just feel around the master cylinder until you find it.

According to my book (914 Tech Tips 700) is says that the relay may click but not necessarily flash.

Going through the wheel well as tidybuoy suggested, I discovered there is NO reset button on the switch. Pulling the wire did stop the relay though, so I know that is the problem.
I also know there is probably air in the system so a full bleed is next..In the meantime, the "clicking" has been quieted.
