Question about towing?
I am moving to Denver next week. I don't have a proper trailer. I have reserved one of those car dollies from U-Haul. I was thinking I would have to put the rear wheels up on the dollie instead of the front wheels, like a normal car. Will towing a 914 by the front wheels in this fashion damage the vehicle? Am I correct in my assumption about towing the back wheels? Thanks!!!!!!!:D

I've towed mine by dolly with the rear wheels rolling and the front wheels lifted. I don't think it did anything to it.

balthazar,
I second Scott's advice. I towed mine from Ventura, CA to Phoenix on a dolly with the rear wheels on the ground. The car travelled well and no damage of any kind. You do need to make sure the shocks are up to spec, as a tail-dragger may allow the tail pipe to drag on the pavement. Of course this could make for an interesting fire-works display - but not what you want for your teener I'm sure. Enjoy! |
Fronts on the dolly(ie). I have heard stories of a fully latched targa top flying off at hwy speeds :( :( That would not be cool.
Make sure the tranny has fluid and it is NOT in gear :) CHeers Kerry |
