Oil temp sensor plate gasket?

Trying to fix an oil leak for the 3rd time at the oil temperature sensor plate.

In taking out the outer and inner plates, I noticed a gasket between the two plate in addition to the large o-ring.

Has anyone had experience in leaving the paper gasket out and using RTV or is it absolutely necessary...in other words, I don't have the gasket handy and I'd like to get this thing back together, hopefully without leaks!

Any advice would be appreciated!

Thanks!

Mike

you can always try! I would use Permatex ultra grey for that. Don't try the regular "blue Glue" RTV. Also note, that RTV is eaten by syntheitc oils. This is well documented from chevron oil company. Good luck!
