Excess play in steering rack?
My steering wheel feels looser with respect to the wheels then it used to. I do have the problem with a loose steering shaft in the column, but I think this is different. Is there an adjustment on the steering rack or something that could help tighten up the steering? Right now I have several degrees of play in the steering wheel rotation before I "hit" one side or the other on the rack's tooth. It makes it a little tricky to not appear impaired while I'm driving! I'm afraid maybe this is a symptom of a worn part...

Ben,
Have you checked your tie-rods, ball joints and wheel bearings? It they are loose, you will get the same symptoms. I would suspect its one of those. Rarely do you hear of having worn or loose steering racks.

good suggestion. I shouldve mentioned that I installed new wheel bearings, ball joints ,and bushings around 20k miles ago. Never touched the tie rod ends...
