Mystery Oil

Hay all. Simple question (not so simple answer).

Question - When I open my deck lid, there is 1/4 cup of oil on the passanger side of it, and the battery and engine bay in thta area is all oily. Where is this comming from???

Guess - I know I have bad oil cooler seals. There is a big round opening in the sheetmetal (no this has nothing to do with Y2k). I have nothingh to plug this opening so I am also guessing that its supposed to be that way. I'm guessing the fan is blowing the oil all around.

Any ideas?

my guess of the round opening is a hole to allow ducting between the heat exchangers and the hose connected to the electric fan. fan blows air over heat exchangers then into passenger compartment. oil problem, ? (sorry)

Oops, I should add that the heat exchangers were rotted when I got the car, and the heat duct work was removed. I can see that that hole would be about the correct size for the heat ducting. I have headers now, no heat.
