Engine Lid Angle Bracket question

Hey Guys quick question here. One of the two angle brackets that are welded to the firewall that the engine lid bolts to has broken away on my car. It looks like it just tore away at the edge of the weld. The sheet metal is 100% rust free around were it came off, the metal just tore (I think the weld itself may have corroded.)

Has this happened to any of you? If so what I am wondering is how muched it cost you to get it welded back on to the firewall.I need to do this soon as I don't like driving around without my engine lid. Just want to know what its going to cost me!

Thanks,
-Brent

It happened on one of our 914s and the best fix seems to be to put a small steel reenforcement plate (5x5in) on the other side of the firewall and weld it all back up. The firewall is pretty thin as you can see and the plate allows the hinge to handle the load of those wonderfull springs. We drilled several small holes and welded through them to hold it all together and no further troubles. Of course the back pad, seats and any other things you don't want melted will have to come out but it's worth it. Good luck.

Both of mine have dones this. A simple weld took care of it. Go spend $100 on a cheap welder and learn how to do it, then apply it to your car.
