914/6 Conv front sway bar size
 

HI,

I am doing a 914/6 conversion for street/AutoX. I have 911SC front struts, and will be puting 7X15 wheels front, 8X15 in rear. What would be the recommended front sway bar size 19 or 22 mm?

buy the biggest one. you can always set it soft. if you buy the small one, and max it out, and find you need more anti swaybar....youre screwed.

several choices only limited by your budget:
Weltmeister
Tarett
Racers Group
Smart Racing
?charlie bar? (not sure on this one)

The rest of the suspension will also influence how much front roll stiffness you need. So will the desired alignment settings (which will also be inflenced by the suspension setup and front ARB size), driving style, and so on...

I disagree with these guys. If you are interested in
autocross, and you don't have a rear limited-slip,
then you don't want a rear sway bar. And you
probably want 21mm torsion bars and 180 lb rear
springs (or similar). With this setup, I run the small
front sway bar (welt 19mm) FULL SOFT for autocross,
to minimize understeer at low speed.

If you run a bigger bar, you won't be able to soften it
enough. I also drive my car around on the street and
it is okay with these settings.

Mskala is right, you want lots of body roll for autocross. For street driving though, i would have the 22mm sway bar because if you max out the 19mm, you need to buy the 22mm.

For autocross, like mskala said, use the big torsion bars and 165 or 180 springs in the rear, and simply dissconnect the sway bar to acheave more body roll.

One "sweet spot" for the 914 is:
Stock front T bars
140 lb rear springs
19 mm front AR bar set full soft.

This is a good compromise street/AX set up.

That was one of my "stops" along the way.

My car is now pretty much a AX only car.

21mm T bars
25 mm Tarret AR bar (effectivly a 22 mm bar cause it's hollow)
set full soft
225 lb rear springs.....and I'm gonna need stiffer...I still have a push that I'm having to drive around.
I run the same size f&r tiars, so this may skew things a bit for someone with fat rears.
