914 Air Cooling

Need a quick hand,The bellows for the oil cooling is not working.Going to drive this car several hundred miles and need to know if the wire is loose if this is maximum hot engine cooling or do I need to pull it down and sinch for max hot engine cooling.
Somebody help out a forgetful mind

The spring forces the flaps open, so if the thermostat wire is disconnected the flaps are open (maximum airflow).
