Cam for a 73 2.0?

What kind of cam can I use with a 2.0 and still keep the fuel injection?
I have heard of the HP 440....i think????
Anyone with one of these? DId it affect economy? How is the low end power affected?

I am guessing, the more high end power, the less low end power?

What is the best cam I can get and how much is it...and where?

TIA
Paul

Web Cam makes a little hotter cam both with solid and hydralic lifters. There is one of the hydralic KITS in my daughter's 914 and it works well. You can't get too radical of the FI system quits working I hear. Good luck.

I installed a Web cam hydraulic (stock grind) in the wife's 914 and it runs great. The sound level is very quite, exhaust note only.

Remarkably a stock '76 exhaust system (with a "test pipe" installed) sounds quite nice; low and resonate. A blown out muffler probably helps.

Hydraulics are nice for low revving work horse motors....but tend to float at high rpms. I would not recommend them for an autocross motor.

That's why hydraulics are on busses not (most)914s....

Since you mentioned you are keeping the FI system, the hydraulic cam, lifters, push rods, etc should be fine. The engine can't rev much over 6000 anyways and you want the engine to make lots of torque coming out of a corner at 3000 RPM or so. The hydraulic engine is a little quieter than the engine with solid lifters, but I also have straight cut cam gears so I get noise from that. Good luck.

I am leaning toward not even thinking about hydraulic cams...just because I want to keep stuff a little more simple and can do the valve adjust myself fairly easily.

I would like to have a little more torque in the bottom end...but also would like to be able to go for around 5500 to 6000 as usable rpm. I just know that right now, before I took the engine apart, the engine would be hard pushed to go anywhere after about 5000.

Does anyone have any experience with different cams and keeping the stock fi?

Thanks,
Paul
